about

five original short stories by a.s. ember in a poetic and chilling chapbook, presented in both audio and pdf formats (purchase includes both).

in "The House", an entity discovers an abandoned development project in the forest. this is a post-capitalist, anarcho-primitivist fable of greed, modern comforts, and horrific consequence.

in "Inheritance", a young woman returns to her childhood home upon the death of a parent to retrieve an item from her father's basement.

in "A Lübeck Nativity", the biblical narrative is uprooted and placed in the unforgiving clay pits of medieval germany, where a suffering woman collects clay for st. mary's church while dreaming of her children, who all died in infancy.

in "Bride", the vampire bride stereotype is explored and subverted in a disorienting reimagining of scenes from bram stoker's dracula.

in "Vertumnus", two children investigate the mysterious house behind an immense hedge, the home of a botanist who has not been seen for many years.

** content warnings **

"A Lübeck Nativity" contains sexual content and scenes of miscarriage and death by burning
